Jacobson Shares Insights into the Actuarial Career

September 20, 2015
CHICAGO – The actuarial job market is heating up. How can the industry’s emerging talent prepare for their entry into the increasingly competitive job market? Kylee Lacson, national territory manager at The Jacobson Group, will share her insider insights on successfully kick starting an actuarial career through a panel presentation at the 3rd Midwest Actuarial Student Conference in Ann Arbor, Mich. Co-organized by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the panel presentation, “The Entry-Level Job Market for Actuaries: What’s Hot, What’s Not, and How to Position Yourself for Success,” is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on October 3.

“Today’s actuaries are facing a rapidly evolving labor market,” said Lacson. “There are a number of emerging areas and hot skills that graduates and young professionals need to be aware of in order to successfully compete in a changing industry.”

The session will feature company representatives and actuarial recruiters who will discuss opportunities that exist in today’s job market, what employers are looking for and what steps individuals can take to find success in the actuarial field. Lacson will be joined by a diverse group of panelists: Steve Armstrong, vice president of admissions for the CAS; Mike Boot, managing director of sections and practice advancement for the SOA; and Kevin House, managing consultant for Towers Watson.

As national territory manager for Jacobson’s life and disability subject matter experts team,  Lacson provides organizations access to professionals with functional expertise and consultant-level talent for special projects and short-term accounting, actuarial, claims, compliance, marketing, risk management, technology and underwriting needs. Active in the insurance industry, Kylee is a Customer Service Associate and Associate of the Life Management Institute and is currently pursuing her Fellow, Life Management Institute designation through LOMA. Kylee was also a member of the inaugural Certificate in Retirement Essentials class in December of 2014. She plans to complete the Fellow, Secure Retirement Institute program in 2016 as LOMA finalizes the remaining courses. She participates in several organizations such as the Association of Home Office Underwriters and the SOA.
